Cancelling and refunds
Version 2026-08-09

1How to cancel
Open Settings, choose Cancel subscription, and confirm. Before you confirm, the screen tells you the exact date your subscription ends. That is the last day you will have access, and no further payment will be taken after it.
You do not have to contact us. We will not make you speak to anyone, answer a survey, or wait for a reply. If the button ever fails to work, that is a fault on our side — write to support@straightbill.com and we will cancel it for you and refund anything charged after you first tried.
2What happens to the rest of your billing period
Everything keeps working normally until the end date shown when you cancelled. Send estimates, raise invoices, take payments — nothing is restricted because you have given notice.
3Refunds
We do not refund a period that has already been paid for, including if you cancel on the first day of a new month or year, and including where the account has gone unused. Cancelling stops the next charge; it does not reverse the last one.
This applies to annual plans too: cancelling part-way through an annual term stops the next renewal, it does not refund the remainder.
Three things we always refund, without argument:
- We charged you after you cancelled. Tell us and we refund it in full.
- We charged you in error — the wrong amount, or twice for the same period. Same answer.
- The cancel button failed. If it did not work and you were charged again, that is our fault: we cancel it and refund everything charged from the moment you first tried.
Beyond those three we sometimes make an exception when something has genuinely gone wrong. That is a decision we make case by case rather than a right you have — but a person reads every one of them, so write to us.
4Payments your customers make to you
This page is only about what you pay us. It is not about the money your customers pay you.
When a customer pays one of your invoices by card or bank, that money goes directly into your own connected Stripe account. The only piece we take is our flat 0.5% fee, collected at the time of payment — and if you refund the customer, that 0.5% comes back to you in proportion to the refund. Refunding a customer is otherwise something you do, on your terms, from your Stripe account: we are not a party to the sale and cannot take a customer's money back for you or theirs.
5After your account ends
Your data is kept for 90 days after the subscription ends, so that resubscribing brings everything back exactly as it was. After 90 days it is deleted permanently and cannot be recovered. You can export everything yourself at any point in that window, and if you want it deleted sooner, ask and we do it.
Links you have already sent to your customers keep working while the account is live. Once the account is deleted, those links stop working — so if you need a record of an invoice, take the PDF before the 90 days are up.
